I have had my hair mostly black for the last 9 years. Between colors have included red, medium brown, pink, blue and purple. I like to use pravana and special effects. Today I am doing the crown area magenta. Maybe I will post a lovely picture within the next couple days.
What are your favorite colors? What are you favorite bright color lines?

Locks of love
In a world where illness strikes people of all ages, even children, the smallest measure of hope and kindness is greatly appreciated, yet is sometimes hard to find. Children are faced with hardships that many adults would find impossible to endure, such as losing all their hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes, to physical ailments or cancer treatments.
Luckily there is hope for people under the age of eighteen who have permanent or semi-permanent hair loss resulting from health problems. Locks Of Love is a nonprofit organization that gives real human hair wigs to these children.
Here are some guidelines Locks Of Love goes by in accepting donated hair:
1. The hair must be at least ten inches long, sent in the form of a braid or ponytail
2. It can't be hair that has ever been dyed
3. Hair can't be wet or dirty
4. Packed in a clear sealable bag and mailed to Locks Of Love.
When it comes to doing charity work, one must realize that others need what we have more than we do. You can easily go with a cute short 'do for the winter time. A child who could receive your hair wig might make his holiday season a truly joyful one.

Tacky Wigs!
Cool Blog
I think Tyra Banks is crazy. This lady is not afraid to speak her mind. You are cool if you read Tyra's blog.
Found this- how to recession-proof your haircut.
Live on the Edge
Layers are always chic and help add body and life to your hair- - but they're very easily made in to a tell-tale "this chick needs a haircut" sign. To avoid the "grown-out layers" look, ask your stylist for choppy layers. This will make your layers grow out with your hair and give your locks lots of volume and an edgy look.
More Bang For Your Buck
Bangs are a simple way to get style, but of course we know they can be more trouble than they're worth. For the lucky few of you who have perfected the art of trimming your own bangs, by all means- - go for it. As for the rest of us, most stylists offer free bang trims between haircuts, especially if you're a loyal client. Add a fierce fringe and you could leave the rest of your hair one straight length for awhile.
Color Caution
If you're pinching pennies, now is not the time to go for crazy highlights. Unless you have the bucks to pay for re-do's every now and then, those highlights will grow out leaving ridiculous roots in their wake. If you're going to go with a dye-job, go for a single-process color so your roots can easily blend in or be touched up easily at home. Even contrasting roots- - like dark roots and platinum hair- - can look hot for a few months.

cute on anyone?
I used to wear pigtail all the times. For some reason I don't feel they compliment my face shape anymore or maybe because my hair has thinned out so much. I don't see many girls wearing them. I should bring them back!
From Wikipedia
A pigtail is another name for hair styled into a large braid that extends down or out from the head. In analogy to the ponytail hairstyle and the long, free-flowing tail of a horse, a pigtail is named for the visual resemblance of a thick, irregularly-tensioned hair braid to the kinked tail of a pig. A person's hairstyle may consist of one or more individual pigtails.
In some regional usages of English, pigtails are considered synonymous with a symmetric pair of hair bunches, regardless of whether each "bunch" is braided or left loose[citation needed]. This usage is not evident in American literature where one frequently finds references to "two pigtails" denoting two braids.
Styles:
There are numerous styles of pigtails a person may wear their hair in. They may be braided, straightened, beaded, ribboned, fishtailed, and even french braided. Pigtails can be placed on different parts of a person's head. The higher the pigtails the more childish look it gives. The lower pigtails give off a more conservative look.

Dandruff help
What causes dandruff?
Dandruff is caused by a type of fungus – Pityrosporum ovale. Upon a normal organism state is does not cause any problems.
What are the symptoms of dandruff?
white, oily flakes of dead skin itchy, scaling scalp too dry or too oily hair greasy skin covered with flaky white, or yellow scales.
I suggest you use: Kenra dandruff shampoo ($12) or Neutrogena T/Gel Dandruff Shampoo.($18) Do not get any off brands.
Remember: Dandruff is due to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp.
Remember: sometimes dandruff may be a symptom of seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal infection.
Remember: When using anti-dandruff shampoo be sure to leave the shampoo on for at least five minutes — this allows the ingredients time to work.
Remember: In general, mild scaling can often be helped by daily cleansing with a gentle shampoo to reduce oiliness and cell buildup.
Remember: Sometimes scaling can occur anywhere on the scalp, in the hair, on the eyebrows, the beard and can spread to the neck and shoulders.
If your dandruff is mild, wash your hair regularly to remove the excess flakes.
When you apply the shampoo, massage your scalp with your fingers to remove dead skin and improve blood circulation.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially in mid-day – ultraviolet rays can damage your hair.
Always wash your hair with clean water after you have been to the pool or in a natural basin with contaminated water, even the sea.
A diet that provides enough zinc, vitamins and minerals, and essential fatty acid may help prevent dandruff.

Salon Etiquette 101
How to get and give the best at your hair salon.
By Mark Garrison
How much do I leave for the shampoo girl? Who do I tell if I'm unhappy with my cut? What if I really don't want to buy the products the salon is trying to sell me? If you feel unsure sometimes about the ins and outs of salon etiquette, you're not alone. At our salon, we get a lot of questions from clients wanting to be sure they're doing all they should to ensure great service and great hair.
What we hope our clients realize, and every salon patron should know, is that a salon experience should be all about servicing you. Your comfort and happiness should be top priority, wherever you go.
That being said, keep in mind that being pleasant and open to suggestions is a nice way to treat salon staffers and stylists, especially as they are aiming to please you. A little reciprocal TLC is always appreciated and noticed. For salon success all around, try these suggestions.
Etiquette Basics
Most salons have a 24-hour cancellation policy, so if you can't make an appointment, let the salon know as soon as possible.
Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time, so you can be changed and chair-ready at the appointed hour.
Explain in detail what kind of look you have in mind; photos are helpful too. You and your stylist should also discuss your lifestyle, personality, and different ways to style your new look in your pre-cut consultation.
Keep chatter in check when you're in your stylist's chair. Dishing or venting may be fun, but you don't want to break his or her concentration.
If your salon offers to sell you products, it's most often because they are the products that were used to get your style at the salon, and will help you recreate the look at home. If you're not interested, or if the product's not in your beauty budget right then, don't be afraid to say so. Your stylist can suggest alternatives or other ways of maintaining your style.
Tipping and Haircut Remorse
Tipping Tactics
Good service deserves to be recognized. Just like a restaurant, a salon is a service industry, and it's expected you will acknowledge those who have assisted you. Giving 10 to 15 percent of the cost of your service is an average tip; it demonstrates that you like what you had done and are happy. A 20 percent tip shows more appreciation for that awesome job you really love.
Spread the love to others in the salon and they'll remember you kindly on all your return visits. Be sure to tip all the assistants who work with you and any other helpers in the salon -- 5 percent is standard.
Should you tip the salon owner? It depends on his role in the salon. If he just meets and greets, it's not necessary. If he is an actual technician who worked on your hair, the answer is yes.
When You're Unhappy with Your Hair
People are often nervous about speaking up about something they don't like at the salon, but owners and managers need to know the problems within their walls, and appreciate your input. For example, as soon as you notice something you don't like about your hair or service, express your concerns so that your stylist can make adjustments.
If you're not happy with your style when you get home, stay calm. It often takes some time to adjust to a new look and a little practice with the new techniques and products your stylist should have explained to you. If you're still unhappy after two weeks, often a salon will offer a free or discounted repeat cut.

no more tears part 2
So my boss Crystal has informed of a great hair detangler. Headrush by TIGI. I use it for shine, to oil my shears, lighten hair if you use too much hairspray or help calm fly aways.
Description:
Tigi Bedhead Headrush is a light citrus spray enhances shine, making it look and feel healthy. Unlike sprays which make your hair hard, this leaves the hair feeling soft and silky.

Yes. I am a hairstylist. I will cut and blow you out. One thing I will not do is give you a blowout haircut... Alright if you paid me I will. I thought it was a Scottsdale thing but I realized tonight it started in Jersey. Jersey Douchebag, hmmm not much different than a Scottsdale Douchebag.

Scissor happy?
win your hair war!
41% of woman say that a bad day lowered their self-confidence one to three times in the last month. I my worst hair days are freshly shampooed days. It looks best after day three. I also feel self-conscious when my hair is flat ironed. I can't even look in the mirror, it's just too flat. I like big/messy curls.
quick fixes:
short hair- a cute headband
long hair- loose bun or ponytail at the base of crown and pull hair only half way through the elastic and let the ends stick out.
frizz- vitamin E, rub through hair strands

worst shampoo
Pantene is a commercial failure. i believe it does not live up to its expectations and does not give you gorgeous, smooth, shiny, to die for hair. Pantene is not healthy for your hair because it contains silicone, which is what makes your hair soft and shiny after the first wash. But with each wash the silicone builds up, only coating the outer layer but underneath your hair is actually deteriorating. I have even heard it causes thinning of the hair/hair loss and makes your hair color dull/fade. I strongly recommend you invest in a quality shampoo. Once you stop using pantene your hair will be dry but once you get a better product your hair will get healthier and stay healthy in the long run. I suggest Biolage colorcare therapie by Matrix or Superstar by TIGI.

10 Commandments of Sinfully Rich Hair Color
Tempted to try a DIY dye job? Whether you're headed toward blonde, red, or brunette, don't even crack open the box until you've read these expert tips. from Marie Claire
1. HONOR THY hue
"Use your current color (even if it's dyed) as a gauge when selecting your formula — and never lighten or darken your hair more than two shades at one time," says Rachel Glenn of Chicago's Prink Salon.
2. THOU SHALT KEEP THY cool
Lightening tresses with a "warm" formula may leave you brassy. "Opting for a color described as 'cool' or 'neutral' is a safer bet for first-timers," says Jason Backe of Manhattan's Ted Gibson Salon.
3. THOU SHALT NOT skimp ON DYE
Imagine running out of dye halfway through color application. Not good. The amount in most kits is sufficient for the "average" head of hair (about shoulder-length). So, cautions Patty Slattery, director of L'Oréal Technical Center, "If your locks are longer or very thick, stock up."
4. THOU SHALT SPLURGE ON tools
The application tools supplied by most kits are pretty flimsy. If you want the job done right, says Backe, pick up pro tools at any beauty-supply store.

Henna
I have only used henna for hair coloring twice. Both times weren't great experiences. Probably because I have adhd and I can get impatient. I stick with Pravana 1N. Henna is better for bohemian chicks or people with allergens.
Henna is available in the following shades:
Black -True, deep black tones (ebony)
Dark Brown -Rich, brown tones (sable)
Medium Brown -Warm, brown tones (chestnut)
Red -Full spectrum of red tone
sherry -Rich, red tones (light auburn)
Mahogany -Woodsy red tones (medium auburn) Neutral -Deposits no color on the hair
The benefits of using henna to color your hair:
prevents premature graying of hair
nourish and condition the hair
make hair shiny and smooth
doesn't irritate the scalp or the skin
simple and easy to use
henna doesn't lighten (or bleach) hair
doesn't contain harsh ingredients and chemicals
henna straightens and thickens your hair
doesn't contain ammonia
prevents hair loss and dandruff

I <3 milk
I never really drank milk till early 2007. Let's drink milk for stronger nails and hair! Two of my favorite things.
This was taken from the article Bad Hair Day? Open the Fridge.
Some stylists say that, while some hair care products are necessary and desirable for daily upkeep, women seeking truly shiny, silky, beautiful hair should look past the shower to the refrigerator instead. “Many people think that great hair starts with shampoo and conditioner,” says Hollywood-based Estilo Salon stylist and co-owner, Roberto Ramos, “But, it really begins with what you eat. Beautiful hair needs vitamin and protein-packed beauty foods.” Top of the ‘Beauty Foods’ list is good, old-fashioned milk. In fact, milk is one of the best sources of the vital nutrients that help maintain strong and healthy locks. According to research, cow’s milk contains the ideal mix of essential nutrients for beautiful healthy hair. The proteins and lipids in milk work to strengthen hair, while the calcium promotes hair growth and aids in preventing hair loss.
What are your thoughts? Agree or disagree?
no more tears
Maybe this product would have saved my life today. My last clients hair was a nightmare. I wanted to cry. It took me an hour to comb and cut through her hair. I tried using every conditioner and serum in the salon. I even pulled some off the shelf! In three years doing hair I have never come across hair that bad. I think her hair was allergic to professional products.
