How To Ace An At-Home Manicure

Want to save some cash and paint your nails yourself? Here are all the pro tips you need to nail an at-home manicure:

Step 1: Prep your nails by rubbing them clean with a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover. This gets rid of any oils so your polish will stick to your nailbed and last as long as possible.

Step 2: Apply a clear base coat and let it dry for at least a minute so it’s not tacky before applying your nail polish.

Step 3:Slick on two thin coats of a colored nail polish. Each coat should be thin so it dries quickly. Wipe one side of the brush against the top of the bottle to remove the excess lacquer, then paint your nail in three even strokes—first down the center, then down each side. Wait a minute between coats. Extend your second coat slightly over and under the tips of your nails to prevent chips.

Step 4:Finish off with a high-shine topcoat. Wait a full 30 minutes for the polish to dry.
