Tis' the season

This fall, not only are ladies adding in more low-lights to darken up their hair, the more adventurous are going bolder. Bolder, as in darker, deeper jewel tones. I’m talking blue black, garnet red and dark brown with amethyst tones.

I like this new edginess everyone seems to be taking on. Gone are the chunky blonde peek-a-boos, in are the all over precious gem colors.
Photobucket
I myself prefer the blue black, but that’s just me.
Photobucket

This holiday season, try something new. However, don’t go too dark if you’re a blonde as it’s a lot harder to go lighter than it is to go darker, but go ahead and take a chance. What have you got to lose.

need a "change"?

When a client comes in 50% of the time they need a "change". I honestly feel it's a needed simple change. For an instant style change, try changing the part in your hair occasionally. I tend to go for the very dramatic side part. Edgy.
*A deep side part can give you a more glamorous, sophisticated look for that special occasion.
*Flipping your hair part to the opposite side can give you added volume in front.
*A center part and a bit of work with a flat iron can create a retro, sleek, sixties look. Classic.
*Try something new and have everyone thinking you visit the salon every day!

EARLY X-MAS GIFT?

I am having major bang/fringe trouble right now. I also hate hat hair. So this would be a great solution to my problems and great for blocking Arizona sun.

HAIR GEL ANYONE?

FOREIGN COMMERCIALS ARE ODD..... I am still trying to figure it out.

Icky hair

What I've been noticing a lot lately in my clients is their dry, brittle hair. There are a lot of factors to cause your luscious locks to dry up, however, there are plenty of products out there to help put the supple back into your strands. We tend to put our hair through a lot these days. What with flat ironing, curling and chemical processes, not to mention stress, changes of weather and Arizona's hard water.

But before you head off to an expensive salon or beauty supplier to find the "best" (read: most expensive) hair care products, you should actually look no further than your local Sally Beauty Supply store. Especially in these tough financial times. Though most of their products are off brand, I've found that some work just as well, if not better than the more pricey name brand products. Here are a few of my favorites that work wonders on your damaged, dry, brittle, or all of the above, hair.

1. Hask Henna & Placenta:
Photobucket
I know the name is weird and may seem like a gross idea, but placenta actually has a lot of protein and vitamins which nourish and condition the hair.

2. Ion effective hair treatment. This ones my personal favorite as it brought my hair back from the grave after some heavy duty bleaching I did on my jet black hair to make it fire engine red.
Photobucket
You can purchase it in a 1-2 time use packet to use as a deep conditioner on your hair for about 15 minutes under a plastic cap. You can also buy larger sized bottles to use every time you shampoo.

3. Beyond the Zone's Last Call Hair masque.
Photobucket
Beyond the zone is based off the Bed Head products and, in my opinion, are formidable products. The hair masques not only conditions and repairs your hair, it also smells delicious. Plus there's a whole line in the Last Call family which you can use together for optimum hair treatment. We have the shampoo as well as a leave-in conditioner.

These are just a few of my personal favorites, and trust me, my hair has been to hell and back and I have used all three, if not more, of one of these products at one point or another.

Most of us hold our hair in high regard and we need to take care of it, so keep your 'do in tip top shape.

*Tip*: When taking a shower, after you shampoo your hair first, apply your conditioner starting at the ends and working your way up to the scalp. Often times we don't pay much attention to the ends and that causes breakage and split ends. Leave the conditioner in your hair while you bathe, shave and whatever else you do in the shower, then rinse out right before you shut off the water. This should help your hair with feel softer and smoother.

*Tip*: If you use a flat iron to straighten your hair, you'll start to notice the tips of your hair start to take on a sizzled hair sort of look. One way to help alleviate that is to use a comb when straightening. Run a comb through the section of hair you're straightening following the flat iron. Just a small tooth comb should do the trick.

smokey eyes minus all the black eye shadows

I am going to Sephora for make up application and purchases. I want to try out the new Kat Von D line. I already know what I am getting.

hair:
-instead of buying clarifying shampoo, mix about two tablespoons of baking soda into regular shampoo and wash as usual to strip the product buildup from hair. it also gets our chlorine and the green tint it leaves in hair

-for deep conditioning, smooth body lotion into hair n leave it in overnight. wash hair in the morning n it'll give it more body n make it really soft

-to get rid of chemical spray in hair add a few drops of orange or peppermint- about three drops per eight ounces - into the bottle n shake it up before you apply it. since so little is you it doesn't affect the hair spray at all

-use a dime-size squirt of baby lotion as texturizer especially for layer, razored hair. since it's lighter than most lotions, its not too greasy. it tames flyaways and works like any other styling product

-to protect hair color from fading, mix one part sunscreen w/three parts purified water in a water bottle and spritz on hair before going outside

skin:

-if you breakout alone your hairline try washing your face after you get out of the shower to remove abny residue left on skin from conditioner. getting that film of conditioner off just might solve that problem

-strange but the sugar in packets at Krispy Kreme is so superfine, it makes the best scrub- the granules are tiny and not so harsh on your skin mix one packet w/a tablespoon of honey for perfect exfoliation

-papaya has the digestive enzyme papain, which works as a mild exfoliatior. just mash it into a paste n apply a five-minute mask

-put a spot of honey on pimples at night because it has antibacterial properties. it heals zits faster (i actually read this on hear before and tried it n it did work pretty well, especially to get rid of that redness from blemishes)

-when you get one of those huge, undergrown blemishes. mix a teaspoon of yeast w/a few drops of lemon juice n water to make a paste and dab it on spots. it seams to really shrink those things overnight!

-put hydrogen peroxide on inflamed zits. it removes all the bacteria n dries up the area much quicker than acne cream. use this trick only at night though because it turn the area white temporarily

-swipe deodorant over your bikini line after waxing or shaving to prevent bumps. dermatologist says it works because there is something in the deodorant that protects your skin against irritation

-regular oil-blotting sheets leave a powdery white residue and they're so expensive n tiny- it takes like five to get the job done. those brown, unbleached napkins are good to blot face w/instead since they're really absorbent n there's no powder

brows:

-for less painful hair removal, numb skin by rubbing a drop or two of baby teething ointment over the area

-you can use lip balm for practically anything like holding eyebrows in place, add glow on eyelids and cheeks, and even in hair as styling wax

eyes:

-bend tip of mascara wand until its at a 45 degree angle, it makes putting on mascara easier and it bends back when put away and doesn't break

-curl lashes after applying mascara. the pros say not to since you risk ripping out your lashes, but if you wait at least five minutes uintil they[re toatally dry, and do it slowly, it works

-dust dark brown eye shadow over lashes and then apply mascara. do it while looking down so none of the shadow gets in eyes. it makes it easier to see the tips and makes sure you're getting the full lash. it also makes them look a little darker and fuller

-if you fall asleep w/eye-makeup on, smear a little bit of hair conditioner over lashes in the shower the next day. mascara slides right off and it softens lashes and prevents them from getting brittle

lips:

-prep lips w/underye concealer. it evens out the color and prevents the lipstick from bleeding

-use old trick of filling in whole lip w/lip liner and then applying clear gloss ontop. the best part is that the color from the liner seeps into the tube of gloss and creates a new, sheer color

INK IT OVER
Is the nail salon the new tattoo parlor?

If there’s one thing readers can agree upon, it’s that anything inked is pretty awesome. See: tattoo tights and temporary tattoos.

So we admittedly freaked out over China Glaze’s fall nail polish collection, called Ink, which features colors that look like they were drained straight from the needle at our local tattoo parlor.

There are six regular shades, all named after popular tattoo designs (raise your hand if you have a blue sparrow on your back or a koi fish on your arm), and a special black polish with an ultra-fine brush, so you can add tattoo-inspired prints to your fingers. Or, if your hand-eye coordination is a bit off, you can just stick on one of their nail decals.

And unlike an actual tattoo, if you get sick of the look you can just get out some nail polish remover and start from scratch. Because not even Johnny Depp could have a tattoo forever.

ONE WORD! AWESOME

..... and no one is allowed to kiss me

hair extensions for length or fullness

Hair extension information.
Here is a quick look at the different methods of applying hair extensions:
Hair extensions can be attached to your head in many different ways, including gluing, tubing, sewing, and clipping on. Different methods have different advantages. The method you choose will depend on many factors: your hair, your lifestyle, your budget, and your needs, for starters. If you are looking for a long-lasting, natural-looking hair extension, though, consider one of the fusion methods.

Fusion is generally the preferred method as fused hair extensions can last up to three to six months with skilled application and proper care. With fusion hair extensions, the extensions should be indistinguishable from your natural hair. If properly applied, the attachment site should be virtually invisible.

Fusion hair extensions can be applied in different ways: hot or cold fusion. Hot fusion or bonding uses hot glue to attach extensions to your hair. This is the more traditional method. While it does have many happy followers, others say that the glue causes the extensions to feel stiff and unnatural. These extensions can last up to 4 months.

Hot fusion– (lasts 3-4 months) This method won't harm natural hair but doesn't have a lot of adhesive for holding power needed for extended wear. After a few washings, the tubes can loosen, releasing strands, which then allows even more extension hair to fall out. You generally loose about 3-4 strands throughout the period they are in. $125-150 full head.

Cold fusion- (last 3-4 months) this method uses no heat, it is good for all hair types. Uses a metal tube clamped over the real hair to attach extension hair. $125-150 full head.
Fusion hair extensions are more expensive than other methods. If you want long-lasting, natural-looking luscious hair, they just might be the extensions for you.

Weaves – (lasts 2 weeks) Tiny braids hold hair extensions against the scalp, like cornrows, except these braids are hidden. $75 full head.

Bonding – (lasts shampoo to shampoo) The extensions used for this method have a latex plug meant to be glued to your own hair for short terms use. Because this method is fast it's also inexpensive. However, to remove extensions, oil and heat must be used to dissolve the bonding agent, which messy and time consuming. If not removed with care the latex can pull your own hair out. $30 full head.

Braids, Cornrows, Twists, Locks - Integrates extensions in a visible way in that the braided attachment is seen but blends into the hairstyle. $ upon consultation

PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE HAIR. YOU WOULD NEED TO GOTO SUNNYS OR ANOTHER HAIR STORE FOR HAIR.

hairstyle of the day!

I really don't think people (men and women) spend enough time styling their hair.... a cute cut like this can look like a horrible cut unstyled.. so listen to your stylist and they are explaining how to recreate your cut/style.

P R E C I S I O N H A I R C U T T I N G

A hair cut is probably the most important part of your appearance. With a bad hair cut no matter what you wear, you will never feel good, (except maybe with a big hat). Every time you look in the mirror, all you will see will be your terrible hair cut.

Everybody knows what a bad hair cut is, but the same cannot be said about a good one. It's difficult to know what a good hair cut is until you've had one. With a good hair cut your hair will be take less time to style. It will look good no matter how much effort you put into it. The true test of a good hair cut is, it will still look good as it grows out. Have you ever had a hair cut that looks bad after a few weeks, and when you go back for a trim, the hairdresser thinks you have not had a hair cut for months? That's a bad hair cut.

Another definition of a good hair cut is whether or not it suits you. There is absolutely no point in creating a perfect style if it does not flatter the client. Hair cuts should enhance your appearance, not detract from or hide it.

crack for your hair

Anyone heard of this? a strip of hair is shaved from the middle of the nape of your neck up a couple inches. Apparently, some weird spiky piece of hair is sewn in. I know a bunch of you all are in Chicago. What’s the deal? This ish for real?

I’ve been noticing eyebrows a lot lately. Everywhere I look it seems as though they are getting thicker. No longer are the pencil thin, severely arched brows in style. They’re thicker, more natural looking. I think I like the bushier versions. Although I myself cannot have that look as my eyebrows are naturally thin and I feel like a drag queen when I color them in. I guess whether you like them thin or fuller, you should come in to Arizona Hair Co. for me or Judea to wax you up…just your face though!

2009 big hair trends: an excerpt

I agree with Star about the new cropped Katie Holmes 'do being the next big thing, but if you opt to go that route, please please please don't date yourself and dress as though you're a 50 year old grandmother with no style...as Katie has been doing as late. She is close to my age (I'm 29) and I feel as though she's trying too hard to look like a "serious" actress. Or maybe she's just doing it to seem as old as that ever crazy husband of hers, Tom. No one will ever know.

Another big trend is going to be the pixie as done recently by the ever fashionable Victoria Beckham. It's cute, low maintenance and one of my personal favorites.

As far as long hair goes, i think short choppy layers rocker style should be the thing. But that's just my opinion.

2009 big hair style? let's discuss.

Do you know the upcoming hair trends for 2009 or do you just not know what to do with your hair? Be ahead of the game with the following list of the sexy styles of hair for the new year!

Have you noticed that in the past year there have been more girls with shorter hair? Well, that’s because more and more women cut their hairs according to the trend. Fashion is constantly changing from one thing to another. If something gets popular, it no longer becomes the “in” thing with designers and models trying to individualize themselves from the common public. Especially when it comes to hair, it’s easy to predict the upcoming trends either: short or long. With the pendulum affect in fashion changes, women are starting to grow out their hairs for 2009. So how do you transition from short hair to long hair? Well, here are some suggestions:

The Cropped Bob: This style became really popular in 2008. It’s a little extreme and stands out, but any woman who can pull off this look; screams to the world, “I am confident!” Not to mention it looks cute with a sort of tom-boyish charm on Katie Holmes.

The Pixie Crop: Shorter and more dazzling. A natural progression from a cropped bob. This style is far less subtle than the cropped bob and gives off a more younger/ funkier vibe. Expect to see a lot of the pixie crop for 2009.

Victoria Beckham pulled off The Bob: The popular hair trend started earlier this year. This trend is still very popular and will definitely continue through the next year.

Above were variations of short hair, but like I said before, the trend is moving towards longer hair. There are a few ways to do your hair that were very popular on the fashion runways for 2009.

Flowing Long Hair: A little wave with a split in the middle.

Straight and Sleek: Completely straightened all the way down
