5 Tips For Parting Your Hair Down the Middle

I have been playing with the closer to the center partings... I cant fight nature because It always ends up back to an exaggerated side part... bobby pins will be the key to training my hair to fall exactly where I would like it....

When you part your hair, you pull the comb from the top of the back of the head, known as the crown, to your forehead.

To make middle-parted hair more adulatory to all face shapes, be sure to end the part about ¼ inch to ½ inch away from the current center of your head.

Symmetry: If you have a slightly crooked nose or somewhat unaligned eyes (like me), a severe straight-down-the-middle part can have a tendency to highlight what you don't want to highlight. Instead, go for a part that's just a wee bit off to the middle. You'll still get the same effect but with more flattering results.

Softer styles: If you're dead set on going for exactly in the center but are worried about it being too extreme, just create a smaller part instead, which looks a bit softer. You can also try starting your part in the middle at the hairline, and veer slightly off-center to the side as you work your way back. Another trick? Still part your hair down the middle, but use your fingers to create a not-too-perfectly-straight part you'd get from a comb.

Widow's peak: If you have a widow's peak, a middle part can work for you too. You don't have to fight the natural parting of your hair, but you can coerce it to lie flat by combing damp hair tautly with a brush, followed by a blow dryer to set.
From boho to sleek: Middle parts on long hair create a bohemian, laid-back vibe. To transform the look into a sleek nighttime style, break out the flat-iron to create straight locks. Keep your makeup clean and simple so as to not compete with your more severe hairstyle.

Do it up: If you're considering wearing your hair back, take some inspiration from Cameron, who wore this loose, slightly off-center part with a wavy ponytail. For something more formal, slick your hair back into a tight bun to showcase your center part.

I took a class for the Brazilian Blowout last week. It. Was. Awesome. The product that is, I could have lived without the actual pain in my ass from sitting in a hard chair for 3 hours straight. One thing I'm a big believer in? Dirty hair. Now I'm not talking so dirty if you took a dip in the ocean, it would cause death to sea life and animals. I'm talking about, if you have thick dry hair, you can stand to go a week at the most. Thin, oily hair? A day, maybe two. Medium texture hair? 3-5 days, depending on how fast it gets oily. A little dirty hair never hurt anyone, not to mention the fact that it's much easier to style with the added "texture". Especially if you're going for the real big pouf without a bumpit.

With that said, there are times when you're not sure if your hair is dirty enough to wash, so maybe you can get one more day out of your style. Or, like me, have bangs and have an oil problem from touching them too much. In that case, and many more, there are some wonderful products you can use to soak up that oil like a napkin on a greasy slice of pizza. The first, and my personal favorite, TIGI's Rockaholic Dirty Secret dry shampoo. It's a spray powder with a delicious scent that soaks that oil right up.

If you are not on the market for the pricey $19.95 price tag, you can always go with a less expensive approach in Pssst. Yes, it really is called that. You get the same effect, but, in my opinion, with a not so pleasant odor. You can get Pssst at any CVS or Walgreens and is an excellent dry shampoo.

Yet an even less expensive option would be baby powder. This being less expensive mainly because of the fact that most of you already have this laying around your house somewhere. All it takes is a light sprinkle rubbed into your hair or you'll look like you have a bad case of dandruff. Dandruff is not sexy.

Shower caps are excellent for keeping your hair dry while in the shower, as there is an array of fashionable shower caps available nowadays...these ain't yo grandma's shower caps. And remember, no one likes a dirty body. Lather. Rinse. Repeat, ladies.

I have discovered my new favorite nail polish. The Orly Plastix line. The muted bright colors invoke a retro 80's vibe with the not too glossy, not too matte colors. My favorite so far is Viridian Vinyl, because you can never go wrong with a teal. I have yet to try the other 3, Purple Pleather, Retro Red and Old School Orange. Though I doubt I'll be trying the orange as I don't really like the color...it was the favorite color of an ex-boyfriend and we want to be happy when we look at our nails, not dredge up bad memories.

I highly reccommend this collection from Orly. I just love the satiny smooth finish and the colors which will be perfect for the transition into fall colors. Enjoy!

Vinegar is a great, green miracle. There are so many uses for vinegar that you could probably fill a book. (I'm sure someone has.) Vinegar's Crab Apple Cove cousin, apple cider vinegar is just as useful, especially in terms of beauty.

Apple cider vinegar can do more than just liven up the old scalp. It's a great little beauty product that can aid the entire body.

Use apple cider vinegar on your scalp. It will remove the dandruff from your noggin and won't pollute the water supply. Use a mixture of 50% water and 50% vinegar to make an invigorating skull wash.

ACV can also help treat lice.

For softer skin, pour one cup of apple cider vinegar into your bath water.

Apple cider vinegar can be used as aftershave.

Apple cider vinegar can also treat oily skin. Mix 50% apple cider vinegar with 50% cool water. The mixture functions as an astringent.

According to folk wisdom, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before each meal will aid in digestion. It is best to take the vinegar with water. ACV can potentially burn your throat.

Best Home Remedies gives us an ACV facial mask that supposedly clears up acne.
Make a face pack of bran (partly ground wheat) plus baking soda and water. Mix into a paste, apply to the face , leaving on for 15 minutes. Rinse with solution of 1 part apple cider vinegar and 8 parts water.

I won't vouch for this as a cure for acne, but it will, at least, exfoliate your face and remove dead skin cells which is an aid to the acne sufferer.

Bonne Bell Lip Smackers were the ultimate beauty accessory for any girl whose mom wouldn't let her wear makeup until well into high school. I would suggest wearing your hair in a ponytail or bun. If you have bangs, use a barrette to keep them off of your forehead; this will keep any sweat out of your hair. All of this seems like an obvious choice, but every now and then I see women wearing Gisele-style waves at the gym. (This annoys me)

After the workout, if you don't have time to shower, you have a few options to refresh your hair:
If your bangs happen to be greasy, a quick sinkside shampoo and minute-long blow-dry should do the trick.
If your problem is a sweaty scalp, dry shampoo might be the answer. TIGIS Rockaholic will do the trick, but I really like Biolage Oil Control Treatment because it soaks up oil while puffing up the hair. Either way, just apply the product close to your scalp to cut down on the greasy look. If you have very light hair, you can also substitute baby powder in a pinch.
If you're battling flat hair, add a volumizer such as Aveda Volumizing Tonic ($15) to your gym bag. Spray the volumizer near the roots and brush (or finger-comb) it through your hair. This will provide a little lift without requiring a blow-dry.

Home Mask For Weak And Dry Hair

Winter can leave our hair pretty dry. A good remedy for weak and dry hair is the hair mask with lemon juice. You will need: 2 tbsp. castor oil or almond oil, 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice and 1 tbsp. honey. Add the honey and the castor oil to the lemon juice. Mix all the ingredients well and apply the mixture generously first to the roots and then to the entire length of the hair.

WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU IN?
When looking for the right face-slimming haircut, the first thing to consider is the actual shape of your face. Round faces are roughly as wide as they are tall… and since you’re reading this, your face is probably rounder than you would like.

But whether your face is round, squarish, rectangular or heart-shaped, the goal typically remains the same: to make your face appear oval-shaped -- length about one and a half times its width, with your jawline being slightly narrower than your forehead.

GET A LITTLE TRICKY
The right cut can help trick the mind’s eye and make your face appear more slender. Layering is key for achieving that effect and there are also specific hairstyles to avoid. No bobs and no short hair. Think vertical stripes on slacks or a dress as opposed to horizontal stripes.

I would probably not do anything too short, not do anything too wide, and have some fringing and soft lines around the face to conceal part of the cheek area and chin, adding that hair should ideally fall somewhere between the bottom of the ear and the top of the shoulder. A side part will also help to de-emphasize your face’s circular symmetry.

Getting a cut that’s smoother and closer to the head can give the illusion of a thinner face. Another way to create the suggestion of length in the face by is adding some height to the top… but do so within reason. Don’t get too big – none of the big Texas hairstyles. That same “no” goes for avoiding the poofy, teased hair that was literally big in the eighties; and mullets are a big never, no matter where you live or what the era.

We all know healthy skin and hair starts with a healthy diet, if we are deficient in certain vitamins or minerals our hair can thin, nails can become brittle, bones can weaken, well you get my point. I workout almost everyday. I also have been eating more whole foods and foods with with less or no preservatives. I also have been drinking more water/less soda. I know it's hard with our lifestyles now days, but we can take it one day at a time and balance it out.

Remember:
try to exercise daily (even if it's a quick stroll around the mall or neighborhood)
eat fruits and vegetables every day, in order to get vital minerals and vitamins
drink at least 1 liter of water a day to keep your body hydrated
cut down on high-fat foods, especially at breakfast
you can grill the food in order to reduce the fat content
eating meat, poultry, fish or pulses will provide the protein needed to repair daily damage
eating a wide variety of foods will ensure you get all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that you need every day
eat more whole grain foods which may help to keep your heart healthy (I love oatmeal)

Children are faced with hardships that many adults would find impossible to endure, such as losing all their hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes, to physical ailments or cancer treatments.

Luckily there is hope for people under the age of eighteen who have permanent or semi-permanent hair loss resulting from health problems. Locks Of Love is a nonprofit organization that gives real human hair wigs to these children.

Here are some guidelines Locks Of Love goes by in accepting donated hair:
1. The hair must be at least ten inches long, sent in the form of a braid or ponytail
2. It can't be hair that has ever been dyed
3. Hair can't be wet or dirty
4. Packed in a clear sealable bag and mailed to Locks Of Love.

When it comes to doing charity work, one must realize that others need what we have more than we do. You can easily go with a cute short 'do for the winter time. A child who could receive your hair wig might make his holiday season a truly joyful one.

Add a fierce fringe and you could leave the rest of your hair one straight length for awhile.
Color Caution
If you're pinching pennies, now is not the time to go for crazy highlights. Unless you have the bucks to pay for re-do's every now and then, those highlights will grow out leaving ridiculous roots in their wake. If you're going to go with a dye-job, go for a single-process color so your roots can easily blend in or be touched up easily at home. Even contrasting roots- - like dark roots and platinum hair- - can look hot for a few months.

I used to wear pigtail all the times. For some reason I don't feel they compliment my face shape anymore or maybe because my hair has thinned out so much. I don't see many girls wearing them. I should bring them back!

Dandruff is caused by a type of fungus – Pityrosporum ovale. Upon a normal organism state is does not cause any problems.

What are the symptoms of dandruff?
white, oily flakes of dead skin itchy, scaling scalp too dry or too oily hair greasy skin covered with flaky white, or yellow scales.

How much do I leave for the shampoo girl? Who do I tell if I'm unhappy with my cut? What if I really don't want to buy the products the salon is trying to sell me? If you feel unsure sometimes about the ins and outs of salon etiquette, you're not alone. At our salon, we get a lot of questions from clients wanting to be sure they're doing all they should to ensure great service and great hair.
What we hope our clients realize, and every salon patron should know, is that a salon experience should be all about servicing you. Your comfort and happiness should be top priority, wherever you go.
That being said, keep in mind that being pleasant and open to suggestions is a nice way to treat salon staffers and stylists, especially as they are aiming to please you. A little reciprocal TLC is always appreciated and noticed. For salon success all around, try these suggestions.
Etiquette Basics
Most salons have a 24-hour cancellation policy, so if you can't make an appointment, let the salon know as soon as possible.
Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time, so you can be changed and chair-ready at the appointed hour.
Explain in detail what kind of look you have in mind; photos are helpful too. You and your stylist should also discuss your lifestyle, personality, and different ways to style your new look in your pre-cut consultation.
Keep chatter in check when you're in your stylist's chair. Dishing or venting may be fun, but you don't want to break his or her concentration.
If your salon offers to sell you products, it's most often because they are the products that were used to get your style at the salon, and will help you recreate the look at home. If you're not interested, or if the product's not in your beauty budget right then, don't be afraid to say so. Your stylist can suggest alternatives or other ways of maintaining your style.

Good service deserves to be recognized. Just like a restaurant, a salon is a service industry, and it's expected you will acknowledge those who have assisted you. Giving 10 to 15 percent of the cost of your service is an average tip; it demonstrates that you like what you had done and are happy. A 20 percent tip shows more appreciation for that awesome job you really love.
Spread the love to others in the salon and they'll remember you kindly on all your return visits. Be sure to tip all the assistants who work with you and any other helpers in the salon -- 5 percent is standard.
Should you tip the salon owner? It depends on his role in the salon. If he just meets and greets, it's not necessary. If he is an actual technician who worked on your hair, the answer is yes.
When You're Unhappy with Your Hair
People are often nervous about speaking up about something they don't like at the salon, but owners and managers need to know the problems within their walls, and appreciate your input. For example, as soon as you notice something you don't like about your hair or service, express your concerns so that your stylist can make adjustments.
If you're not happy with your style when you get home, stay calm. It often takes some time to adjust to a new look and a little practice with the new techniques and products your stylist should have explained to you. If you're still unhappy after two weeks, often a salon will offer a free or discounted repeat cut.

Pantene is a commercial failure. i believe it does not live up to its expectations and does not give you gorgeous, smooth, shiny, to die for hair. Pantene is not healthy for your hair because it contains silicone, which is what makes your hair soft and shiny after the first wash. But with each wash the silicone builds up, only coating the outer layer but underneath your hair is actually deteriorating. I have even heard it causes thinning of the hair/hair loss and makes your hair color dull/fade. I strongly recommend you invest in a quality shampoo. Once you stop using pantene your hair will be dry but once you get a better product your hair will get healthier and stay healthy in the long run. I suggest Biolage colorcare therapie by Matrix or Superstar by TIGI.

Cool cuts 4 kids or any kids salon usually offer quality kids cuts, video games, movies, specialty kids care products and they will even blow bubbles in your child’s face to keep them focused. I personally get frustrated with children. They sit still for a maximum of three minutes, aren’t big enough for the chair or for some reason start crying as soon as they see a stylist. (You would think we were monsters) I don't think I could work at a kid’s cut salon and I love children.

I have only used henna for hair coloring twice. Both times weren't great experiences. Probably because I have adhd and I can get impatient. I stick with Pravana 1N. Henna is better for bohemian chicks or people with allergens.

Maybe this product would have saved my life today. My last clients hair was a nightmare. I wanted to cry. It took me an hour to comb and cut through her hair. I tried using every conditioner and serum in the salon. I even pulled some off the shelf! In three years doing hair I have never come across hair that bad. I think her hair was allergic to professional products.
